Rip Rap (3 to 8 Inch) for Walls, Slopes, and Erosion Control

This Rip Rap runs a smaller 3 to 8 inch stone, clean and angular with no sand, suited to the same wall, slope, and erosion-control work as the larger grade but in spots where a tighter, more uniform stone size is the better fit. The angular faces still wedge and lock together to resist movement, while the smaller size makes for a closer, neater finished result.

The reduced size brings a practical advantage: it is easier to place by hand, which suits smaller walls, tighter spaces, and detailed work where the larger 4 to 12 inch stone would be awkward or too coarse. On protected slopes and along path or bed edges, the smaller rip rap gives a tidier, more finished line while still doing the structural job of armoring the ground.

It is the right call wherever you need the holding power of rip rap without the bulk of the heavier grade. Around the home and on smaller drainage and erosion projects, the 3 to 8 inch size offers a clean balance of strength and appearance. For higher-energy water or larger retaining work, step up to the 4 to 12 inch rip rap instead.
