The blend is mixed at a 60/40 ratio, 60 percent sand to 40 percent rock, which produces the standard 3-2-1 concrete blend once cement is added, that is 3 parts sand, 2 parts rock, and 1 part cement.

That balance suits a wide range of general concrete work, but no two jobs are identical, so the mix is easy to adjust. If a job calls for a coarser, stronger finish you can add more rock, and if the mason wants a smoother, finer result you can add more sand. This flexibility lets the same delivered material serve footings, slabs, and smaller pours without ordering separate aggregates.
