Pit Run: 36 Inch Minus Crusher Rock for Site Fill and Leveling
Pit Run: 36 Inch Minus Crusher Rock for Site Fill and Leveling
Pit Run is raw crusher material taken straight from our crushing plant, sized from 36 inches all the way down, and made up mostly of broken rock with only a small amount of dirt in the mix. It is the heavy-duty answer for filling, leveling, and raising large areas when you want far more rock and far less soil than General Fill provides. Because it comes off the crusher in its rawest form, the load includes a wide spread of rock sizes that knit together well under their own weight.
This is true bulk material, so an excavator or loader is needed to move and place it. Pit Run is at its best as the first lift on a deep fill or a large pad, where its size and weight form a stable foundation for the finer, graded layers that follow. Spread it, work it level, then build up from there with 6 Inch Minus and a base course to reach a firm finished grade.
If you are weighing Pit Run against General Fill, the deciding factor is usually how much soil you want in the layer. General Fill is cheaper and carries more dirt, which suits simple volume work, while Pit Run gives a rockier, more stable base for anything that will carry structure or traffic later. Check with your contractor on which one the job calls for, so you are not paying for more than you need or building on less than the work requires.
